Summary

In this riotous young adult romp for fans of Recommended for You and A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow, a teen girl has the worst Valentine’s Day ever—only to relive it over and over again。

After living through a dumpster fire of a Valentine’s Day, Emilie Hornby escapes to her grandmother’s house for some comfort and a consolation pint of Ben & Jerry’s。 She passes out on the couch, but when she wakes up, she’s back home in her own bed—and it’s Valentine’s Day all over again。 And the next day? Another nightmare V-Day。

Emilie is stuck in some sort of time loop nightmare that she can’t wake up from as she re-watches her boyfriend, Josh, cheat on her day after day。 In addition to Josh’s recurring infidelity, Emilie can’t get away from the enigmatic Nick, who she keeps running into—sometimes literally—in unfortunate ways。

How many days can one girl passively watch her life go up in flames? And when something good starts to come out of these terrible days, what happens when the universe stops doling out do-overs?

I literally cannot wait to read more from her。The Do-Over made me remember why I love reading YA books。 It’s the perfect read with a fun and slightly supernatural plot, sweet and playful romance, and simply a feel-good, wholesome vibe!! I highly recommend it! 。。。more

YESSS!!!This book was so gooooood!!! I read this in one sitting。 I thought this would be very boring because of the time loop idea。 I was wrong! I feel like the whole idea just made me want to read it even more。 I literally could not put this down。 This was a quick read for me。 I read it in 4 hours-ish。

I thought this book was bloody adorable。 I did get really pissy that it took Nick WEEKS to realise he made a mistake with Em。 And the fact that it was very basic and cliche but I still enjoyed every moment of the book。

Definitely an auto-buy author for me。 Admittedly I was skeptical about the time loop aspect of the story but it worked so well! I loved the humour, the characters and the storyline。 And I was happy with the ending。 Definitely recommend。

I LOVED this。 I think I’ve found my niche book trope I love- Groundhog Day romance。I was not bored for one second and it was so enjoyable。 I was screaming through a lot of the book。WHEN HE CALLED HER “GOOD GIRL”! I STOPPED AND SCREAMED FOR LIKE 5 MINUTES。 AND SHE COMPARED NICK TO JESS MARIANO。

Love love love!I was worried this book was going to feel to repetitive with it being a groundhog type of day but it wasn’t at all!

My first book from Lynn Painter, and I am obsessed with the ENTIRE book - the plot, the chapter length, the characters, JUST EVERYTHING。 Emilie is having the worst Valentine’s Day ever。 She crashes her car into her lab partner, Nick, loses her summer fellowship, and worst of all, she discovers that her boyfriend, Josh, is cheating on her with his ex girlfriend。 Now here's the worst part: when she wakes up, she finds herself reliving the same Valentine’s Day over and over again。 With the same dis My first book from Lynn Painter, and I am obsessed with the ENTIRE book - the plot, the chapter length, the characters, JUST EVERYTHING。 Emilie is having the worst Valentine’s Day ever。 She crashes her car into her lab partner, Nick, loses her summer fellowship, and worst of all, she discovers that her boyfriend, Josh, is cheating on her with his ex girlfriend。 Now here's the worst part: when she wakes up, she finds herself reliving the same Valentine’s Day over and over again。 With the same disasters happening over and over again, she has an epiphany: she has to make the most out of the situation, and live life like there won't be any consequences tomorrow because it will all be erased, right。。。? And this completely changes everything。。。Although the concept of this book is based on time loops, this never feels repetitive! Emilie and Nick were an absolute dream to read about, as their growing relationship becomes hilarious, and heart-warming。 。。。more

This was such a fun read! I thought the repeating day theme would be irritating and it would feel repetitive, but Lynn painter did an amazing job at making the days distinguishable and I loved it。 This book is YA so I was also worried that it would feel immature, but I found it was fun and nostalgic to read a book in a high school setting。 Great read to close off the year!🫶🏽

i had really high expectations for this book since i enjoyed better than the movies so much, but this book felt too similar and i feel like the entire story just fell short。 liz from bttm and emilie’s personalities felt too similar and i feel like i didn’t care enough about emilie’s character while reading the book。 maybe it’s the fact that i haven’t read YA romcoms in a while but everything emilie did made me cringe and i honestly wanted to throw the book across the room several times (i was re i had really high expectations for this book since i enjoyed better than the movies so much, but this book felt too similar and i feel like the entire story just fell short。 liz from bttm and emilie’s personalities felt too similar and i feel like i didn’t care enough about emilie’s character while reading the book。 maybe it’s the fact that i haven’t read YA romcoms in a while but everything emilie did made me cringe and i honestly wanted to throw the book across the room several times (i was reading on my phone and i was unwilling to throw my phone。) even though i didn’t like the book, it was still short and enjoyable, which is perfect for anyone looking for something light or needs to reach their reading goals! 。。。more

Feeling giddy ASF because that’s just how Lynn painter makes me feel 😆😆😆。 SERIOSULY how have I not read this book considering I loved the shit out of better than the movies???? Like maybe it’s because it reminded me of that one movie where she wakes up and the day repeats all over again and I didn’t like it as much but THIS??? I love this shit。 Like there’s just something about it that you just cannot hate on。 Like maybe it’s the progression from her Embarassing herself because she just can’t ac Feeling giddy ASF because that’s just how Lynn painter makes me feel 😆😆😆。 SERIOSULY how have I not read this book considering I loved the shit out of better than the movies???? This book made me smile like an idiot。 It was so cute and so fun! This is definitely a quick and easy read for me and exactly what I was looking for。 Nick Stark reminded me a lot of Wes Bennett from Better than the Movies, so of course I fell in love with him。 He's a grump who's not really a grump because please, he agreed to do whatever Emilie wanted to do without hesitation。 He's swoon-worthy and smitten, that's what he is。 I really liked Emilie too - she's funny and relatable, and when she de This book made me smile like an idiot。 It was so cute and so fun! Yassss, go off, girl!I wished we'd gotten more insight of Nick's feelings for Emilie, though, because the hint that he liked her even before he got roped into spending a whole day with her wasn't enough for me。 I'm greedy。 I needed more。 But what he did for her in the end? The grand gesture? That was too adorable my little heart couldn't handle it。 Lynn Painter is a queen when it comes to YA Romance。 She won me over with Better than the Movies, and now with The Do-Over。 The witty banter, the personal growth, the wholesome romance - I love them all! 。。。more

I felt like I’ve read a hundred books that have the same premise, the same clichés and even the same love interest。 I’m disappointed because I had high hopes after reading Better than the movies by this author。 Also, why must every female main character have a gay male best friend? How typical can a YA book get…

this one’s for the swifties!!! an absolutely charming, swoony story with amazing chemistry and an excellent love interest。 i don’t usually like time loop stories but this one was perfect because it didn’t focus too much on the repeat days。 this is the kind of book that reminds me of what’s so good about YA。 loved!

Better Than the Movies is by far one of the best YA rom coms my heart has had the privilege of reading! It took me a while to get my hands on The Do Over but I’m so glad I did。 This is a story with a groundhogs day premise, an over achieving lead and a broody love interest。 The banter is engaging and witty and the chemistry is sparky and sweet。Lynn did a great job with the groundhogs day premise。 What could be repetitive never gets that way and is consistently engaging。 Emilie is trying to figur Better Than the Movies is by far one of the best YA rom coms my heart has had the privilege of reading!
